Apple appears to have completely removed the ability to download the installers of older versions of macOS and Mac OS X from the new version of the Mac operating system. Previously users could go. If you bought a Mac from 2013 on, you can download the iWork suite of apps — Pages, Keynote and Numbers — from the Mac App Store absolutely free. But what if you bought an older Mac? With iTunes 12.6.5 or earlier installed on your computer, you can search for apps from the built-in App Store. When you download them, they appear in the App Store Purchased page on your older device as well. Open iTunes and select Apps from the drop-down menu. Then click the App Store button and search for the app you want to download. Go to the “Purchases” section (newer App Store versions must go to Account Purchases) Scroll down the list of Purchased items to locate the Mac OS X Installer version you wish to re-download, then click on the download button; This works particularly well if the Mac you’re downloading the software onto is running an older version of Mac OS X.
I have an older MacBook (2008) and I am running OS X Lion, which is highest possible OS X version my MacBook supports. I've made several purchases from the Mac App Store. I recently started fresh with a new HD, and I discovered that when I tried to re-install my previous purchases from the App Store, if the app was currently at a version not supported by Lion, then I get a message: '(App) can’t be installed on “OS X Lion” because Mac OS X version 10.8 or later is required.' I was wondering if it was possible to access previous, Lion compatible versions through the App Store to download? Some of these apps were actual purchases, not free, and I am disappointed. Thank you.
